RK Narayan is still regarded as one of the most eminent Indian authors and has written a plethora of books for both children and adults. He was also the recipient of the National Prize of the Indian Literary Academy, India’s chief literary honour.

Another eminent Indian novelist, Anita Desai has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize thrice. She has received the Padma Bhushan for her work that includes books like “In Custody”, “The Village by the Sea” and “Fasting, Feasting”, among others.

A beloved Indian author, Ruskin Bond has authored over 500 short stories, essays, and novels which also includes 69 children books. His first novel was “The Room on the Roof”, published in 1956.

The author of bestselling novels such as “The Glass Palace”, “Sea of Poppies” and “The Hungry Tide”, among others, Amitav Ghosh is known as one of India’s best authors. He is also the recipient of the 54th Jnanpith Award, India’s highest literary honour.

An award-winning author and poet, Chitra Banerjee Divakruni is known for bestselling novels like “The Palace of Illusions”, “The Forest of Enchantments” and “Before We Visit the Goddess”, among others.
