5 remedies for sore throat due to air pollution

Delhi is reeling under severe air pollution for the past few days. The AQI remained above 400 in several parts of the city while residents have been gasping for clean air.

Air pollution is the reason behind a plethora of ailments and among them is a persistent sore throat as well. Here are a few remedies if you are suffering from an irritated throat due to pollution.

Saltwater gargles: Gargling with warm water mixed with salt can alleviate a sore throat by reducing bacteria in the back of the throat. Just mix a teaspoon of salt in a full glass of warm water.

Baking soda gargle: Baking soda mixed in warm saltwater can help reduce throat irritation as well and decrease swelling in the back of the throat as well. Just mix half a teaspoon of baking soda in the saltwater.

Steam: Inhaling steam is quite common and eases a sore throat very quickly. It is also beneficial for a bad cold or never-ending cough as well.

Ginger tea: A cup of ginger tea mixed with lemon and honey is an effective way to reduce irritation in the throat. To make ginger tea, just brew some water with ginger and add a few drops of lemon and honey in the cup.

Mulethi/Liquorice root: Mulethi or liquorice is also used to relieve an itchy throat. It also provides comfort from a nagging cough.
