The monsoon is the perfect time to eat different types of comforting and warm dishes. Here are some steamed snack recipes from Northeast India that you can enjoy at home.

Pukhlein

Add jaggery or sugar powder to rice flour. Add some water and prepare a thick batter of it along with some grated coconut. Now, add this batter to banana leaves and steam until it is cooked.

Momos

Prepare a dough of all-purpose flour. Now, roll out thin round sheets from this dough and fill it with a stuffing made from vegetables or minced meat. Steam these momos until they are cooked.

Komola Kheer

Chop orange peels and mix them with milk, sugar, and cardamom powder. Once, the mix starts thickening, add rice flour to it. Keep it cooking until you attain the desired consistency.

Zan

Mix some rice flour with water and salt. Now, pour this batter into the small cups made from the leaves of bananas or turmeric plants.

Pitha

Mix rice flour with jaggery powder and grated coconut with a little bit of water to make a dough. Roll the dough into small discs and then flatten them into the shape of discs. Wrap these discs in banana leaves and steam.
