5 Tips to Prevent Dry Eyes

Humidify the indoors

Invest in a humidifier to add moisture to the air, helping to maintain an optimal humidity level for your eyes. During winters, indoor heating systems reduce the humidity in your home, leading to dry eyes.

Stay hydrated

Dry eyes can often be a sign of overall dehydration. Ensure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body and, consequently, your eyes, well-hydrated.

Blink regularly

Extended screen time, whether on a computer or while binge-watching, can reduce your blink rate. Practice the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break, and focus on something 20 feet away. This helps distribute a fresh layer of tears over your eyes.

Use artificial tears or eye drops

Over-the-counter artificial tears can provide immediate relief for dry eyes. Consider keeping a small bottle in your bag or at your desk for easy access.

Protect your eyes outdoors

When you venture outdoors, don’t forget to wear protective eyewear like sunglasses to shield your eyes from harsh winds and UV rays, which can exacerbate dryness.
