7 Controversial Umpiring Decisions in IPL 2024

Sanju Samson's Dismissal

In the 16th over, Samson's shot off Mukesh Kumar was caught by Shai Hope near the boundary. Unsure of his footing, the TV umpire confirmed the catch was clean. Despite replays suggesting boundary contact, Samson was given out. He argued with umpires and was fined 30% of his match fees for dissent.

Virat Kohli’s Dismissal

Kohli was caught and bowled by Harshit Rana, but the batter claimed that the full-toss delivery was waist-high. After the DRS check, the third umpire concluded that Kohli had left his crease to move slightly ahead on the pitch, and since the ball was gradually dipping it would have been on par with his waist’s height.

Dinesh Karthik's LBW

Avesh Khan struck DK on the pads and the umpire declared him out. DK walked over to the non-striker, Mahipal Lomror sent the decision for review. To everyone's surprise, third umpire Anil Chaudhary overturned a correct on-field decision during the IPL 2024 Eliminator, declaring DK not out.

Wide Call Against Mohit Sharma

Mohit bowled a length well outside off against Sanju Samson. Samson moved outside off stump but the on-field umpire gave it wide. After review, the third umpire said the ball was not wider than Samson's initial movement and decided on a non-wide call. After another replay he decided to let the original call stay.

Ishant Sharma angled a delivery from around the wicket and beat Devdutt Padikkal down the leg side. The on-field umpire called it wide and then signaled for a review from DC. The television umpire held up the appeal. However, Rishabh Pant questioned why the third umpire did not care to look at ultra edge.

Ayush Badoni's Run Out

Ishan Kishan whipped off the bails to dismiss Badoni but looked like he wasn't quick enough. After replays, the third umpire showed that it was 50-50 as to whether Badoni had grounded his bat, and then decided on a run out.
