There are many foods that, when not washed or cooked properly, can lead to severe ailments, including food poisoning.
Spinach, mint, coriander leaves, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and other such green leafy veggies need to be washed properly under running water. This is to get rid of dirt, insects or worms. One can also find bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella in these vegetables.
Did you know that not storing cooked rice properly can lead to bacterial growth? If cooked rice is left at room temperature for a long time, bacteria will grow in it rapidly because of the moisture and make us sick. It may also lead to food poisoning.
If you drink raw milk, without boiling it, it can affect your health negatively. Hence, always make sure to drink it only after boiling it. After you boil the milk, you can chill it in the fridge and drink it cool.
Generally, people eat sunny-side up, scrambled, boiled or fried eggs. However, do not consume raw eggs as it can make you sick. Salmonella can be found on the eggshell or even inside the egg.
If seafood is not stored properly and then eaten, it can cause food poisoning. Always make sure to clean the fish under running water, get rid of the scales where possible, cut out the unnecessary parts like the antennule or fins and put them in a freezer by storing them in a clean and dry box.
Just like seafood, raw meat should be cooked properly. Make sure to get rid of the blood, and any hair or fur remnants as well. After cleaning up the meat, cook them properly to kill any bacteria that can make you sick.
Never eat a fruit without cleaning it. Also, never consume it when it is cut and sold. If you need to cut fruit, store them in an airtight container.
