The Wimbledon Championships, often referred to simply as Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournament and is widely considered the most prestigious.

Royal families were greatly indulgent in this sports type. Even King George VI participated in Wimbledon once.

The Grand Slam tournament has been hosted at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, since 1877, featuring outdoor grass courts.

In the beginning, not many people wanted to pursue tennis as a career as they found other sports like cricket more interesting.

Dating back to the 1870s, Wimbledon is older than World War II. The tournament has been through changing times.

Sibling rivalries in Wimbledon have always been iconic, with the latest ones being between Serena and Venus Williams.

Britain's history at the Grand Slam tournament hasn't been a great one. The period between the first and the second Englishman win at Wimbledon is 77 years.

There have been quite some changes in the rules of the tournament ever since it originated in 1877, including the middle Sunday rest rule.
