8 animals that can fly without wings

Ballooning spiders Ballooning spiders can travel thousands of miles through the air. They routinely turn up in Antarctica, the most remote place on the planet. 

Flying squid Neon Squid is a regular sight for Japanese fishermen. The motive to fly seems to be the same one that drives fish to take to the air. A big predator like a shark appears and the squid confuse and baffle their pursuer by jumping clean out of the predator's world.

Ants Some species of tropical ants can glide back to their tree trunk if they are displaced. They orient themselves mid-air and control their descent to avoid the ground below. 

Sugar gliders Sugar gliders small marsupials have a membrane called a patagium that stretches from their wrists to their ankles allowing them to glide between trees. 

Jumbo flying squid Found in the the Eastern Pacific, these are big creatures that can knock you clean out of a boat if you are unlucky. These are excellent swimmers and are covered in specialized color cells that allow them to rapidly and repeatedly change color. 

Flying frogs Some species of frogs, like Wallaces's flying frog have webbed feet and large toe pads that allow temto glide from tree to tree. 

Flying fish Species like the tropical two-wing flying fish are highly evolved to glide. The fish's backbone is partly fused together to make it very rigid and the fins are very large and stabilized by powerful muscles.

Flying snakes There are several types of snakes that can fly. One of these is the Paradise Tree Snake that can flatten their bodies and whirl through the air the air and resemble flight.
