He goes past Zaheer Khan who had a total of 21 wickets in the 2011 World Cup.
Shami also holds the record for the most five-wicket hauls by a bowler in World Cup history.
Shami became the first Indian to pick up 50 wickets in the World Cup.
He also became the fastest bowler to get to the 50 wicket mark having done so in just 17 innings.
Shami has finished the World Cup campaign with a total of 55 wickets in the World Cup. The most by an Indian bowler in the tournament's history.
