This jersey evokes a sense of nostalgia and happiness among fans. It was so popular that it even led team India to bring it back in 2020.
Four years later, the Men in Blue wore a much changed jersey at the 1996 ODI World Cup that was held in the sub-continent.
Like 1996, this jersey too was light blue and had the BCCI crest printed diagonally across the t-shirt. Interestingly, all teams had their jersey manufactured from Asics for the tournament.
This jersey followed a similar, simple pattern as the 1996 one, and looked attractive both during the day and the night.
There was much hype surrounding this jersey. India announced its launch ahead of the tournament, in the presence of some of the leading players of the then team.
This jersey had a darker shade of blue as compared to the 2003 and 2007 ones. India went on to win the tournament and used almost identical jerseys for the next few tournaments.
As compared to the 2011 World Cup jersey, India's 2015 one had an even darker tone of blue.
In 2019, team India wore a jersey that was similar to the 2015 one, except for one distinction. The collar of the 2019 jersey was orange in colour.
The Adidas-designed jersey for the upcoming ODI World Cup is notable as there are saffron, white, green stripes on the shoulder, instead of white ones.
