Pure ghee, a staple in Indian households, enhances flavor in cooking, promotes digestion, and boosts immunity naturally. But how do you check its purity? Here are 9 simple ways to identify purity of ghee:
Pure ghee has a rich, nutty aroma, while adulterated ghee may smell oily or synthetic.
Place ghee in the fridge for 30 minutes. Pure ghee solidifies evenly, while adulterated ghee shows layers or uneven texture.
Pure ghee melts quickly and turns dark brown when heated, whereas adulterated ghee melts slowly and turns yellow.
Place a small drop of ghee on white paper and let it rest for a few hours. Pure ghee leaves no trace, while adulterated ghee will show residue or impurities.
Mix a spoonful of ghee in warm water. Pure ghee will dissolve and create a clear layer on the surface.
Add a few drops of iodine to melted ghee. If the color turns purple, it may contain starch, indicating impurities.
Melt ghee with a double boiler. Pure ghee will melt evenly without separating, while adulterated ghee may show signs of splitting.
Add sugar to melted ghee in a clear bottle, shake, and let sit. Red color at the bottom indicates the presence of vegetable oil.
