Famous radio host Ameen Sayani passed away on Wednesday at the age of 91 after a heart attack, according to his son Rajil Sayani.

Ameen Sayani, who was born in Mumbai on December 21, 1932, became well-known throughout the years because of his compelling style and melodic voice. After India gained independence, he started out as an English-language broadcaster then switched to Hindi.

Sayani's radio show 'Geetmala' helped popularise radio listening in India and brought him great fame.

Sayani's Geetmala, which showcased well-known Hindi cinema music and captivated listeners for decades, became a national sensation. His distinctive method of calling the people in the audience "Behno aur Bhaiyo" (sisters and brothers) became instantly recognised and copied by many.

Since 1951, he has created, assembled, or provided voiceovers for more than 54,000 radio shows and 19,000 commercials and jingles. Sayani also appeared in a number of films, including Qatl, Teen Devian, Bhoot Bungla, and Boxer.
