The Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are new entry-level bikes from Triumph, launched in India on July 5, 2023.
Both bikes are powered by a liquid-cooled, 398cc, single-cylinder engine that is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The engine is called the TR-series and has features like finger follower valve train and diamond-like coating (DLC) in the internal components.
The design of both bikes is inspired by the larger models in the Triumph lineup and has a premium fit and finish.
Both bikes have a digi-analogue display, switchable traction control, and optional heated grips.
The Speed 400 runs on 17-inch alloy wheels with MRF Steel Brace tyres, while the Scrambler 400 X runs on 19/17-inch alloy wheels with MRF Zapper Kurve tyres.
The Triumph Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and undercuts its rivals, with an introductory price of Rs 2.23 lakhs for the first ten thousand motorcycles.
The Scrambler 400 X will be launched in India later in October and will compete with bikes like the Honda CB350RS, Jawa Forty Two, and Yezdi Scrambler.
Both bikes come with a 2-year/unlimited mileage warranty and a 16,000 km service interval.
The Speed 400 will be available from late July onwards and can be booked online or at Triumph dealerships.
Bajaj Auto will not use Triumph platform for any other motorcycle, as it believes customers can see through branding the same platform with different names.
Scrambler 400 and Speed 400 will be manufactured in India by Bajaj Auto at their Chakan plant near Pune.
Capacity for manufacturing Triumph is 5,000 units per month but it will take 3-4 months to reach this level according to Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto.
Nick Bloore, Chief Commercial Officer of Triumph Motorcycles says export of these motorcycles will happen to all markets by the end of this year.
