Battle of the Roadsters: RE Himalayan vs Triumph 400 twins vs Harley X440

Indian market is heating up with the latest competition between the Royal Enfield Himalayan, Triumph Speed 400 & Scrambler 400X and Harley-Davidson X440.

Here’s a comparison of their features and specifications:

Type of bike

Royal Enfield Himalayan is a tourer bike while Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X are neo-retro roadsters and Harley-Davidson X440 is a mid-capacity roadster.

Engine capacity 

Royal Enfield Himalayan has a 411 cc engine while Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X have a 398 cc engine and Harley-Davidson X440 has a 440 cc engine.

Power and torque

Royal Enfield Himalayan produces 24.31 BHP power and 32 Nm torque while Triumph 400 twins produce 39.5 BHP and 37.5 Nm and Harley-Davidson X440 produces 27 BHP and 38 Nm.

Braking system

All 4 bikes - Royal Enfield Himalayan, Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X and Harley-Davidson X440 - have dual channel ABS. However, Triumph twins get ride-by-wire as well.

Comfort features

Royal Enfield Himalayan has analogue and digital console type with digital odometer and fuel guage and analogue speedometer. 

On the other hand, Triumph twins have an analogue instrument console with a small LCD screen, a USB charging port and Harley-Davidson X440 has a single-pod instrument console.

Suspension system

Royal Enfield Himalayan has telescopic forks suspension at front and mono-shock at rear. 

Triumph twins have an upside-down front fork and a mono-shock at the rear and Harley-Davidson X440 gets upside-down front fork and twin shock absorbers at the rear. 

Fuel capacity

Royal Enfield Himalayan has a fuel capacity of 15 litre, Triumph 400 twins have 13 litre and Harley-Davidson X440 gets 13.5 litres fuel tank.

Price

Royal Enfield Himalayan is priced starting at Rs 2.15 lakh. Triumph Speed 400 starts at Rs 2.33 lakh and Harley-Davidson X440 starts at Rs 2.29 lakh.

Moreover, while Scrambler 400X’s price is yet to be revealed, Triumph is offering Speed 400 to the first 10,000 customers at an introductory price of Rs 2.23 lakh.

Availability

Royal Enfield Himalayan is already available in India, Triumph Speed 400 will be available at its dealerships in the second half of July, while the Scrambler 400 will be available in October.

Delivery for the Harley-Davidson X440 will start from October 2023 onwards at any Harley-Davidson dealership and select Hero MotoCorp outlets across the country.
