Neeraj Chopra clinched historic silver in the Javelin throw final, by registering his season-best of 89.45m at Paris on Friday.
With that, he joined an elite list of Indian athletes who won multiple medals in the Olympics in an individual sport.
He won his first Olympic medal at Tokyo 2020. He created history by winning India’s first-ever gold medal in athletics at the Olympics on August 7, 2021.
At Tokyo, the then 23-year-old took first place in the men’s javelin throw final, with a best throw of 87.58 metres.
However, his career-best throw is of 89.94m, logged at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022.
Neeraj won the U-16 national championship in 2012. Two years later, he won the first- ever international medal (silver) at Youth Olympics Qualification in Bangkok.
With a throw of 77.33m at the Inter-State event in Chennai in 2015, he earned his first medal at a national senior competition.
Then he clinched gold at the National Open Championships in Kolkata (2015), South Asian Games in Guwahati (2016), and IAAF World U20 Championships in Poland (2016).
He also made the nation proud as a gold winner at the Commonwealth Games 2018 and also at the Asian Games 2018.
