Chhath Puja 2023: 5 Traditional Foods Offered During This Festival

Chhath Puja 2023 will be celebrated from November 17 to November 20. Here are five traditional foods that are offered to Chhathi Maiya and the Sun God during the festival.

Thekua

Thekua is a fried and crispy dessert made with clarified butter (ghee), whole wheat flour, jaggery (sugar), and grated coconut.

Kaddu Bhat

On the first day of Chhath Puja devotees prepare this kaddu bhat. It is a satvik kaddu curry (pumpkin curry) and rice along with some pulses.

Pirukiya

Pirukiya is a delicious sweet dumpling deep-fried in ghee. They are made with wheat flour and stuffing of coconut mixed with some sugar or jaggery and plenty of chopped nuts.

Lauki Dal

Lauki Dal is a lentil-based dish in which lauki is cooked with lentils. You can serve it with rice as well as chapatis.

Ganna

Sugarcane is harvested in the winter months, which makes the perfect seasonal offering to the gods.
