Things to know about Commonwealth Games

Known as the 'Friendly Games', it's a multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations

It debuted in 1930 in Ontario, Canada & is held every 4 years. This is the 3rd time, England has hosted the competition after London (1934) & Manchester (2002).

The 22nd Commonwealth Games commenced in England on July 28 with 72 teams participating from 54 Commonwealth of Nations countries & 18 territories. It will end on August 8.

Australia is leading the Birmingham Commonwealth Games medal tally with 24 Gold, 18 Silver and 19 Bronze. India is placed sixth with 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze.

Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the second gold medal for India in the men's 67kg category

Weightlifter Achinta Sheuli won India's third gold medal in the men's 73kg category
