Moong Dal Bhajiya, also known as Moong Dal Pakoda, is a popular Indian snack, especially enjoyed during the monsoon season. Here’s how you can make this delicious treat at home.
Ingredients: 1 cup moong dal (split green gram) 1 medium onion, finely chopped 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped 1 inch ginger, finely grated 2-3 garlic cloves, minced (optional) 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing) 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder Salt to taste Oil for deep frying
Soak the Dal: Wash and soak the moong dal in water for about 2-3 hours, to make it easier to grind.
Drain the soaked dal and grind it into a coarse paste using a food processor or blender. Add very little water if necessary.
Transfer the ground dal into a mixing bowl and add finely chopped onions, green chilies, grated ginger, minced garlic (if using), chopped coriander leaves, asafoetida.
Add red chili powder, and salt (as per taste) and mix everything well to form a thick batter.
In a deep frying pan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Drop small portions of the batter into the hot oil.
Fry the bhajiyas for 5-7 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy.
Serve the hot moong dal bhajiyas with green chutney, tamarind chutney, or a cup of hot tea.
