Easy South Indian Sambhar Recipe

Soak Dal: Soak 1 cup of toor dal in water for 30 minutes.

Cook Dal: Pressure-cook soaked dal with 2 cups of water and turmeric until soft.

Prepare Tamarind Water: Soak a small ball of tamarind in warm water, then extract the juice.

Chop and add vegetables (like drumsticks, carrots, and tomatoes) to a pot with water. Cook until tender.

Mix Dal & Veggies: Add cooked dal to the pot of vegetables.

Add Tamarind: Pour tamarind juice into the mixture and simmer.

Add Sambhar Powder: Mix in 1-2 tbsp sambhar powder, salt, and a pinch of jaggery.

Simmer: Let it cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.

Make Tadka: Heat oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, dried red chilies, and asafoetida.

Combine: Pour the tadka over the sambhar and mix well. Garnish: Add fresh coriander leaves before serving.
