Erik ten Hag sacked: All Manchester United managers fired since since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure

Manchester United has fired Erik ten Hag from his role of club's senior men's team manager. Eight different people have taken charge of Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure. Of those eight men, five have been sacked. Here is a look at the managers who have been fired since Ferguson's era at the club came to an end. 

David Moyes

David Moyes was the hand picked by Sir Alex Ferguson himself to become Manchester United's manager after his departure. Moyes became the club manager ahead of the 2013/14 season. The Scott could not even last for a season as he was sacked after just 51 matches.  

Louis van Gaal

Louis van Gaal was Manchester United's next full-time manager. In between, Ryan Giggs served as the caretaker manager for a while. The Dutchman began his managerial career at Manchester United at the start of 2014/15 season. He managed the club for two seasons.In May 2016, Van Gaal won his only trophy with Manchester United, the FA Cup, when his side defeated Crystal Palace. However just two days after winning the trophy van Gaal was dismissed as the club's manager. 

Jose Mourinho

José Mourinho was the next Manchester United manager. The "Special One" became the United boss in 2016 and worked there midway through the 2017/18 season.The Portugese proved to be the most successful manager since Alex Ferguson as he won the UEFA Europa League, League Cup and FA Community Shield with the club. However as the club was struggling in the 2017/18 season, he was shown the door.   

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

After José Mourinho's reign got over at Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of the club.Solskjaer, who has also served the club as a player, was first appointed as a caretaker manager after Mourinho's sacking and later made the permanent boss. So, the Norwegian worked as the United manager from December 2018 till November 2021. Solskjaer failed to win any trophies during his time as the club manager. 

Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick 

After Solskjaer's time was up at United, Michael Carrick took charge the club for a shortwhile. The baton was then passed on to Ralf Rangnick. However, neither Carrick nor Rangnick were sacked. 

 Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag became the latest casulty at Manchester United. Ten Hag, who was hired in 2022, won two domestic cups in his two and a half years in charge but paid the price for leading United to just three wins in nine league games in the opening months of this campaign. The Dutchman led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
