Ex-Pakistan PM Imran Khan, wife Bushra Bibi slapped with seven-year jail term

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been slapped with another prison sentence, this time for his marriage to Bushra Bibi in 2018 that has been termed “un-Islamic”

This is the third adverse ruling for Khan this week and comes ahead of the Pakistani general election that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf supremo has been barred from contesting in

Khan and wife Bushra Bibi are accused of marrying less than three months before the latter’s divorce from her previous husband, which is in violation of Islamic law

Khan had earlier been sentenced to 14 and 10-year jail terms for graft and leaking state secrets respectively and has been charged with nearly 200 offences since he was kicked out from office in April 2022

Khan’s political journey that had begun in 1996 with the formation of his party PTI appears to have hit rock bottom this week

Before embarking upon a career in politics, Khan had enjoyed an immensely successful run as a cricketer, leading Pakistan to their only ICC World Cup triumph in 1992
