Bangladesh batted first after losing the toss and Vaas tore into their batting line up with the first three deliveries of the match itself picking up a sensational hat-trick. The hat-trick is the only one to date to have come in the first three deliveries of an international match.
Ali Khan was on fire with the new ball and bowled a sensational spell which saw him take five wickets for seven runs in his first three overs before returning to take two crucial wickets at the death to finish with figures of 7 for 32 in 9.4 overs. His numbers are the second-best figures by an associate bowler after Rashid Khan’s 7-18 against West Indies. This is also the seventh-best figure across all ODIs for any bowler.
Mohammed Siraj brought Sri Lanka down to their knees in just the first six overs of the match by picking a five-wicket haul. Siraj just blew the top off the opposition's batting lineup by taking four wickets in the fourth over alone. He then came back and dismissed Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka, thus completing his five-wicket haul in just his second over.
Burn ran through Australia’s lower order as their last five wickets fell for just 12 runs, including Warner taken at deep midwicket, six short of his first international hundred since January 2020. This was Zimbabwe’s first-ever victory on Australian soil and only third win against the Aussies in ODIs.
After Canada were put into bat first, Van Gugten tore into the top order as he claimed the wickets of the top five batsmen in the lineup. Claiming two wickets in his first over itself, the Dutch pacer claimed another couple in his second over. His fifth wicket came in the second delivery of his fourth over, meaning Van Gugten had completed his five-wicket haul in just 20 deliveries.
