G20 Summit 2023: India's 5 key priorities outlined

G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, Chief Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth & Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra addressed a press conference on Friday

Kant informed that PM Modi instructed to keep India's G20 presidency “inclusive, decisive, ambitious and action-oriented.”

With the two day G20 Summit set to begin from September 9, Kant spelt out India's five key priorities for the summit.

Amitabh Kant noted that countries have fallen behind on 12 out of 16 Sustainable Development Goals

Accelerated sustainable development goals 

Kant added that India is keen on taking the lead in Climate Action and Climate Financing. As per him, Global South bears the burden of climate change without much contribution

Climate finance 

Kant also cited India's advances in Digital technology. He noted how advances in the West have been led by big tech players.

Digital public infrastructure

India will also be focussing on women led development, women empowerment and gender equality.

Women-led development and gender equality 

 Kant also reiterated India's focus on the global south and requirements of developing countries. India is seeking to play a leadership role.
