Former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir, has mentored the IPL team- Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for 2 years.
His association with the franchise came to an end on Wednesday, as he confirmed it through a social media post.
After parting ways with LSG, he joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor, ahead of the IPL 2024.
The Riders have welcomed back their two-time title-winning captain with open arms. The recent official Instagram handle post of KKR reads, “Welcome home, mentor”.
During Gambhir's tenure at KKR, they qualified for the playoffs 5 times and reached the Champions League T20 finals in 2014.
KKR co-owner, Shah Rukh Khan said, “Gautam has always been part of the family and this is our Captain coming back home in a different avatar as a Mentor.”
SRK is hopeful that Gambhir’s teaming up with KKR head coach, Chandrakant Purohit will instil the “never-say-die spirit” and “sportsmanship” in the team.
A nostalgic Gambhir said, “I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR.”
Gambhir has also expressed his love and gratitude for LSG. He posted on X, “I am filled with love and immense gratitude towards all the players, coaches, support staff and every individual who has made this journey memorable.”
