Neeraj Chopra clinched historic silver in the Javelin throw final, by registering his season-best of 89.45m at Paris on Friday.
With that, he joined an elite list of Indian athletes who won multiple medals in the Olympics in an individual sport.
PV Sindhu (1 silver, 1 bronze), Sushil Kumar (1 silver, 1 bronze), and Manu Bhaker (2 bronze) are the only Olympians with such a feat post-Independence.
Neeraj passed the qualification round by ending at no. 1 with a monster throw of 89.34m in his first attempt itself.
But hard luck in the finals as Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem snatched the gold away with an Olympic record throw of 92.97m.
Both Arshad and Neeraj's first-round throws ended in fouls but they made the second round count with their best.
Frustration might have gotten the better of India's star athlete as his next three throws also ended in fouls.
In his last attempt, he could not cross the 80m mark, but his earlier 89.45m throw was enough to make him India's sole silver medallist in Paris Olympics 2024.
