Artists worldwide who have made a name in their respective fields are picked to sit on the jury, with one member designated as jury president. Here’s who they are:
Being on the jury that picks the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or, is almost as prestigious as winning it.
This year’s jury president, Greta Gerwig, is the first female U.S. director to serve in this role. She comes to Cannes after the success of “Barbie.”
Lily Gladstone, the breakout star of “Killers of the Flower Moon,” returns to Cannes as a Golden Globe-winning actress and the first Native American woman Oscar nominee.
Ebru Ceylan, a Turkish photographer, actor, and screenwriter, is a familiar face at Cannes. She co-wrote the 2014 Palme d’Or-winning film “Winter Sleep.”
French actor Eva Green, known for her roles in a James Bond film and “Kingdom of Heaven,” brings her eclectic resume to the Cannes jury.
Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, a 12-time Goya Awards winner, gained recognition with “The Orphanage” and recently netted an Oscar nomination.
Lebanese director and screenwriter Nadine Labaki, known for “Capernaum,” joins the Cannes jury after earning Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Oscar nominations.
Pierfrancesco Favino, one of Italy’s most famous actors with a parallel Hollywood career, is no stranger to Cannes, having appeared in competition films.
Acclaimed Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, winner of the 2018 Palme d’Or for “Shoplifters,” returns as a main competition jury member.
French actor Omar Sy, a Cannes veteran with a Cesar award and several successful blockbusters under his belt, joins the jury.
