Ollie Pope played a stellar knock of 196 runs in the 2nd innings of the 1st Test between India and England on Jan 28 , 2024 (Sunday).

The England vice-captain registered his fifth Test ton and second-highest score in Tests with the 196 off 278 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

The set batter was dismissed on Day 4 of the match by Jasprit Bumrah, missing out on a deserved double-century in slow Indian conditions.

With Pope’s dismissal in the 102nd over, team England’s innings ended at 420, with a lead of 126 runs over team India.

He became the fourth-highest individual run-scorer in the second innings of a Test match against India by a visiting batter.

Pope went past Pakistan's Saeed Anwar, who scored 188* against India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 1999.

Only Andy Flower (232*), Brendon McCullum (225) and Garfield Sobers (198) have more scores than Pope in the category.

The 26-year-old, playing his 39th Test since his debut in 2018, has scored over 2,000 runs with a personal best of 205.

With 4 more Tests to be played between India and England in the ongoing series, more such amazing innings can be expected from the in-form batter.
