Harry Brook Withdraws from India Series Due to Personal Reasons

The English squad, led by skipper Ben Stokes, arrived in India on January 21 (Sun) for the Ind vs Eng 5-Test series.

Both the teams are gearing up for the opening Test to be held in Hyderabad, commencing January 25, 2024.

The 24-year-old England batter, Harry Brook, will be missing the Test series vs India due to personal reasons.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news on social media, stating that Brook would return to UK from Abu Dhabi, where the team has been training for marquee series..

"Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men's Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India," an ECB release stated.

"The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time...respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” they added.

Through a post on X, England Cricket named Dan Lawrence as Harry Brook's replacement in the Test squad, who bats in a similar position as Brook.

Brook's absence is a significant setback for England's chances in India, a place where no visiting team has won a Test series in the last 12 years.

The final England squad for India Test series includes- Ben Stokes (c), Rehan Ahmed, James Anderson, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Shoaib Bashir, Dan Lawrence, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes, Tom Hartley, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Mark Wood
