India defeated South Africa by four runs in a landmark 646-run contest, to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Smriti Mandhana smashed 136 and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur hit 103* on Wednesday.
The other batters contributed with not more than 25 runs each as India ended at a decent total of 325/3.
South African spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba was the pick of the bowlers as she took 2/51.
As for the Indian bowlers, Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma scalped two wickets each in 7 and 10 overs respectively.
Smriti Mandhana also stunned by claiming a wicket in the first international match she bowled. She dismissed Sune Luus at 12.
The second innings also saw two centuries. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt struck 135 and Marizanne Kap scored 114.
Nandine de Klerk hit 28 off 22 to take the match into the final over where Pooja Vastrakar held her nerves to seal a thrilling last-ball win for India.
