The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session is set to return to India after four decades. Here’s all you need to know about the all-important Olympic meet.
The 141st IOC Session will be held from October 15 to 17, 2023.
Before the session, IOC President Thomas Bach will lead the Executive Board meeting, scheduled from October 12-14.
The IOC Session will be held at the state-of-the-art Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) will host the opening ceremony on October 14.
This is an important moment for India as it will offer the country an opportunity to showcase its preparedness to host major global sporting events like the Olympics.
Olympic gold medalist & IOC Athletes Commission member Abhinav Bindra believes India is a very important market for both the IOC & the Olympic movement.
“From a point of view of how sport can shape our young society, I think it is an important moment for IOC and India,” Bindra told CNBC-TV18.
Over 600 elite members from various sports, including 99 voting and 43 honorary members, will attend.
Additionally, the event will be attended by global media from over 100 nations, covering more than 50 sports.
In February 2022, India, led by the first Indian woman IOC member - Nita Ambani, won the hosting rights for the IOC session.
