India vs England: Surprises and omissions from India squad for first two Tests

The Team India squad for the first two Tests against England was recently announced, and while a large part of the squad that toured South Africa was retained, there were still a few surprises and omissions

We take a look at some of the surprise inclusions and omissions from the squad

Mohammed Shami, who last played a Test for India in the WTC Final last June, is recovering from an ankle injury  he suffered during the ODI World Cup last year. Shami had also missed the Tests against South Africa

Dhruv Jurel has received his maiden senior Team India call-up following a fine showing the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the ongoing unofficial Test series against South Africa A

Pacer Prasidh Krishna is another forced omission, as he misses out after sustaining a quadriceps injury during a Ranji Trophy match

Ishan Kishan, who had been suggested by Rahul Dravid to play domestic cricket before making himself available for selection again, also misses out

Ruturaj Gaikwad's wait to make his Test debut continues after he missed out on selection as well. Gaikwad is nursing a finger injury that he sustained during the South Africa ODIs

India are set to play five Tests against England at home, starting with the first Test in Hyderabad on 25 January
