India strengthens its naval prowess with the commissioning of INS Imphal, an indigenously-built stealth-guided missile destroyer, set to join the Western Naval Command.
Imphal Commissioned
The Indian Navy commissioned INS Imphal, an indigenously-built stealth-guided missile destroyer, on 26 December at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard.
Joining Western Command
The warship is ready to join the Western Naval Command after a thorough trial programme both at harbour and at sea.
Advanced Weaponry
INS Imphal boasts state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, including surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, and torpedoes.
Imphal’s Specifications
The vessel measures 163 metres, weighs 7,400 tonnes, and has 75% indigenous content, making it one of the most potent warships constructed in India.

Modern Surveillance
Imphal is equipped with a modern surveillance radar, enabling the ship’s gunnery weapon systems to acquire target data.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the commissioning ceremony at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard.
Construction Details
The warship was constructed by Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai.
Speed and Missiles
Equipped with BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles, INS Imphal can achieve speeds of over 30 knots or 56 km per hour.
