In a remarkable step towards empowerment of the transgender community, Indian Railways has set up the country’s first Trans tea stall.
A testament to the clarion call of 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas', the stall has been installed at Guwahati Railway Station Platform 1 & will be fully operated by transgenders.
Sharing pictures on Twitter, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the opening of the tea stall at the Railway station.
The pink colour stall was staffed by 2 transgender people & will also be selling cold drinks, juices, biscuits, etc.
The initiative was implemented by North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) in collaboration with All Assam Transgender Association.
The NEFR is looking forward to install more such tea stalls at other railway stations in the region.
The move was lauded by many including Anand Mahindra on Twitter.
