India’s upcoming space missions: sky's the limit

India is on the cusp of a space revolution 

Today, India’s third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, will be launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at 2.35 pm

As the government increases focus on space programmes, here is a look at some of India’s other upcoming space missions

Aditya-L1

Aditya L1 shall be the first space based Indian mission to study the Sun. The mission is scheduled to launch in August 2023.

NISAR

NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) is a joint project between NASA and ISRO to develop a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) observatory. Its planned launch date is January 2024.

Gaganyaan 

Gaganyaan is an Indian crewed orbital spacecraft intended to be the basis of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme. Gaganyaan 1 will be an uncrewed launch planned for 2023, before the inaugural crewed mission that is planned for 2025.

Shukrayaan

Shukrayaan is ISRO’s planned orbiter to Venus to study the surface and atmosphere of the planet. Its expected launch date is December 2024.

Mars Orbiter Mission 2

Mars Orbiter Mission 2, or Mangalyaan-2, will be India’s second interplanetary mission. ISRO has plans to launch this mission by 2024.
