A super over (also called one-over eliminator) Is a tie-breaker. If the teams' scores are equal after both innings have been completed, then a super over is played.
The second super over comes into play if the first 6-ball super over also ends in a tie.
There are only two T20 games where a double super over has been played- an IPL and an international match.
Both the teams scored 212 runs and then 16 runs in the first super over. However, in the second super over, Afghanistan could not chase down 12 run-target, leading India to win the series.
The IPL 2020 match between MI and KXIP was a thrilling one. Both the sides scored 176/6 and then 5/2 in the first super over. KXIP won the match in second super over with a 6 and two 4s in response to MI’s 11 runs.
If the second super over is also tied, subsequent super overs will be played until a winner is determined.
However, there has not been any such instance till date.
