INS Vagir, the 5th submarine of the Kalvari Class submarines, was commissioned into the Indian Navy on Monday, giving a boost to the force's prowess.

The submarine was commissioned in a ceremony attended by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar.

It was launched in November 2020, began sea trials in February 2022, & later was delivered to the Indian Navy in December.

The submarine is indigenously built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), in collaboration with the Naval Group, France.

It is a diesel-electric attack submarine based on the Scorpene class design.

It has state-of-the-art stealth features, including advanced acoustic absorption techniques.

It’s capable of undertaking diverse missions including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, mine laying, & surveillance missions.
