Ravindra Jadeja Becomes 3rd Batter in IPL History to Be Given Out for Obstructing the Field

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) inched closer to yet another IPL playoffs as they convincingly defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Chepauk on Sunday (May 12).

But more than CSK’s win in their last home game this season, it was Ravindra Jadeja’s dismissal that became the talk of the town.

The incident occurred in the 16th over when Jadeja was batting along with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in the chase of 142.

Jadeja was returning for the second run but was denied by Ruturaj. Halfway down the pitch, Jadeja turned and meanwhile, Sanju Samson fired the fielder's throw towards the bowler’s end.

The RR players appealed and the third umpire was convinced that Jadeja was out as he knew where the ball was heading.

He became the third batter in IPL history to be adjudged out for obstructing the field.

Previously, only Yusuf Pathan and Amit Mishra have been given out obstructing the field in IPL

Yusuf Pathan pushed the ball with his foot, causing obstruction in the field in an IPL 2013 match for KKR vs Pune Warriors.

Amit Mishra was also dismissed in a similar way as Jadeja, during his side- DC's IPL 2019 match against SRH.
