Reliance Jio is all set to launch Jio AirFiber, its fixed-wireless broadband service, on Ganesh Chaturthi, September 19.

The announcement of Jio AirFiber was made by Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani during the company's 46th Annual General Meeting on August 28.

Jio AirFiber to utilise India's widespread 5G network and advanced wireless technologies, eliminating the need for last-mile fiber connections, Ambani said.

It has the potential to connect up to 150,000 premises daily, a significant expansion compared to optical fiber, which currently connects around 15,000 premises daily.

Unlike Jio Fiber, Jio AirFiber is not limited by physical infrastructure constraints, providing broader coverage.

It is expected to offer speeds surpassing the 1 Gbps speeds offered by Jio Fiber, although the actual speed may vary based on the signal strength from the nearest Jio Tower.

The Jio AirFiber device supports Wi-Fi 6 and comes equipped with parental controls and a security firewall.

It also lays the groundwork for Jio's Smart Home solutions, which include the Jio Home Router, the Jio Set-top Box, and the Jio Home smartphone app.

The device is designed to deliver "fibre-like speed over the air without any wires," making it easy to set up and use for high-speed internet.

The Jio AirFiber service is expected to be reasonably priced, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 6,000.

Due to the inclusion of a portable device unit, it might be slightly more expensive compared to traditional broadband connections.
