Root has 12,027 runs under his belt in 143 Test matches played so far.
Root now requires 446 runs more to surpass Cook’s overall tally.
If Root manages to score 446 runs in the next 3 Tests, he will become the fifth-leading Test run-scorer.
Root can also become the first batter to score 5,000 runs in World Test Championship WTC history.
He has so far notched 4598 runs in 100 innings of 55 WTC fixtures.
