Root even managed to break Cook’s record of most runs for England in Tests against Sri Lanka.
Cook had scored 1290 runs in 16 Tests against Sri Lanka.
Root now has close to 1350 runs to his name in 12 matches.
It was the first time Root scored a century in both innings of a Test.
He also became the first English player to claim 50 international centuries.
Root managed to break Graham Gooch’s record of 2015 runs to become the leading run scorer in Tests at Lord’s.
