Kerala Style Coconut Dal Recipe

For the dal: 1 cup moong dal Salt, to taste 2 cups water 1/2 tsp turmeric powder For the coconut paste: 1/4 cup coconut 2-3 green chillies 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp ginger, chopped 1/2 cup water For tadka: 1 tbsp coconut oil or ghee 1/2 tsp mustard seeds 2-3 dry red chillies 1 sprig curry leaves 1 small onion, chopped

In a grinder jar, add all the ingredients for coconut paste and grind into a smooth paste. Keep aside.

In a pressure cooker, add moong dal, water, salt and turmeric powder. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally.

Open the cooker, add more water to adjust the consistency and mash it lightly.

Add coconut paste, salt and more water if required. Cook on low heat for 7-8 minutes.

Once it splutters, add in onions and cook until lightly browned.

Add the tadka to the dal, mix and serve with hot rice.
