The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reached their fourth-ever IPL finals after their eight wicket Qualifier 1 win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 21 (Tuesday).
After taking over Ahmedabad by easily chasing down the SRH-set target of 160 in 13.4 overs, KKR is headed to Chennai for the finals set to take place on May 26.
In the match, skipper Shreyas Iyer contributed with leadership as well as with the bat. He scored 58* off 24, registering an unbroken partnership of 97 off 44 with Venkatesh Iyer.
Shreyas finished off KKR's splendid innings in grand style in the 14th over, with a sequence of 6, 4, 6, 6 off Travis Head.
With KKR sealing the final berth, Shreyas became the only captain to reach the IPL finals with two different teams.
Previously in 2020, he led the Delhi Capitals to their first and only IPL final. However, MI defeated them by five wickets.
The Shreyas Iyer-Rishabh Pant pairing was the only thing that worked for DC that day. Shreyas was their top scorer with 65* off 50.
Shreyas will look to achieve with KKR what he could not with DC, as the Knights currently look unstoppable. They might be able to secure a third IPL title in 2024.
