Mahashivratri Vrat: 8 dishes to prepare if you are fasting

Devotees across India observe fast and pray to Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri which is considered to be one of the most auspicious times of the year.

While prayers are offered to Lord Shiva during the night, devotees break their fast the following day. Take a look at some of the dishes you can eat while fasting.

A fasting favorite, Sabudana Khichdi is a simple dish, which combines tapioca pearls with peanuts, cumin seeds, and potatoes for a delightful mix of flavors and textures.

Filled with spiced potatoes and roasted peanuts, Water chestnut flour (singhare ka atta) samosas offer a crispy and satisfying treat if you are fasting for Mahashivratri.

Another fasting staple, Kuttu Ki Puri and Aloo Ki Sabzi, is a must-have during fasting. The puris are deep-fried until golden brown, and the potato curry is seasoned with rock salt and minimal spices.

While regular rice is avoided during fasting, special grains like sama ke chawal (barnyard millet) can be used to prepare a delicious pulao mixed with vegetables and aromatic spices.
