Makar Sankranti 2024: How to Make Urad Dal Khichdi at Home

Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on January 15, 2024. Having khichdi with family is a major attraction of Makar Sankranti.

Here's an easy and delicious recipe to prepare urad dal khichdi at home.

Urad dal (Black lentil) – 3/4cup Rice – 1 cup Ginger – 1/2 inch piece Green chilli – 1-2 chopped Hing (Asafoetida) – a pinch Salt – According to the taste Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp Coriander powder – 2/3 tsp Refined oil – 2tbsp Bay leaf –  1 Cloves – 2 Cinnamon stick – 1/2 Black peppercorns – 5 Black cardamom – 2

 Ingredients

Wash the urad dal and rice separately. Soak the dal for 1 hour and the rice for half an hour.

In the pressure cooker, add oil, khada masala, cumin seeds, and hing followed by ginger and green chilli.

Saute the mix for almost a minute and add the drained dal with salt, red chilli, and coriander powder.

Roast the dal for 5 minutes, and add the rice with water. 

Now, add salt according to the taste and pressure cook it to 2-3 whistles, and let it simmer for some time.

Khichdi is ready, garnish it with some coriander leaves and serve it hot.
