Malabar Chicken Curry Recipe You Must Try

Malabar chicken is a special Kerala-style chicken curry that is cooked in coconut oil and curry leaves. Here's an easy recipe to make Malabar chicken curry at home.

Ingredients

Coconut oil - 3 tbsp Curry leaves - 15 Coriander powder - 1 tsp Turmeric powder - 1 tsp Red chilli powder - 1 tsp Black pepper powder - 1 tsp Tomatoes (chopped) - 2 Onion - 2 Green chillies - 3 Ginger and garlic paste - 1 tbsp Mustard seeds - 1 tsp Chicken pieces - 500 gm Salt (according to taste)

Step 1

Take a pan, heat oil and add chopped and sliced onions. Fry them until golden brown.

Step 2

Once done, add curry leaves, green chillies and ginger garlic paste to it.

Step 3

Now, add coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and black pepper powder. Mix it well and keep stirring for 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 4

Add chopped tomatoes and salt to it. Cover the pan and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until tomatoes turn mushy.

Step 5

After that, add chicken pieces and cook on high flame for 5 minutes. Add coconut paste and water to it. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 6

For tempering, heat coconut oil in another pan, and add mustard seeds and green chillies. Let them splutter for 5 to 6 seconds. Then add chopped coconut.

Step 7

Pour the tadka on the chicken curry and serve it hot with steamed rice or parotta.
