Market at close: Nifty 50 closes above 23,700 for first time, Sensex at 78,165

Sensex, Nifty & Nifty Bank notch intraday record highs.

Nifty hits record high of 23,754, Sensex 78,165 & Nifty Bank 52,747.

Midcaps relatively underperform with Midcap Index closing in the red.

Sensex rises 712 points to 78,054 & Nifty 184 points to 23,721.

Nifty Bank gains 902 points to 52,606 while Midcap Index slips 209 points to 55,369.

Axis Bank, ICICI & HDFC Bank are biggest contributors to Nifty & Nifty Bank.
