Holidays mean indulgence, focusing on festive food and drinks, leading to expected weight gain.

Studies indicate that during Christmas, individuals experienced an average weight gain of 1.35%, equivalent to approximately 1.2kg or 3lb.

But research indicates that even if you put on weight during the Christmas season, it can be shed afterward as your routine stabilizes post-holidays.

But if you are looking to be cautious about your holiday food choices, consider the recommendations provided by a dietitian in The Conversation.

Try to be mindful of how much you are putting on your plate. Don't just snack without thinking.

BE MINDFUL

Eat plenty of veggies, salads and fruit. Save the calorie-rich festive treats as the highlight rather than the main event of meals.

Taking a stroll on Christmas or Boxing Day with loved ones can assist in balancing calorie intake, promoting digestion, and reducing bloating.

INCLUDE SOME EXERCISE

If you still feel like you might have overindulged over Christmas, do not rush into making New Year's resolutions.

Instead, make small changes to your diet and physical activity levels, which are easy to stick to.
