Chakraborty, 73, was hospitalised in Kolkata on February 10 for severe chest pain. Following lab and radiology tests, including a brain MRI, he was diagnosed with Ischemic Cerebrovascular Stroke. Here’s all you need to know the condition.

What is Ischemic Cerebrovascular Stroke?

An ischemic stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is blocked, usually by a blood clot. This can lead to damage or death of brain cells in that area.

What are the risk factors for ischemic strokes?

Risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and a family history of stroke. Age, gender, and race also play a role.

How is an ischemic stroke diagnosed?

Diagnosis often involves a physical examination, imaging tests (such as CT scans or MRIs), and blood tests to determine the cause and extent of the stroke.

#6

Can ischemic strokes be prevented?

Lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, managing blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and not smoking can significantly reduce the risk of ischemic strokes.

#7

Can a person have multiple ischemic strokes?

Those who experienced an ischemic stroke face a higher risk of recurrence. Properly managing risk factors and following medical advice are crucial for preventing subsequent strokes.
