More women are unhealthy compared to men: GOQii India Fit Report 2024

45% of Indian population fell into 'Borderline or Unhealthy' category in 2023 as compared to 48% in 2022, according to GOQii India Fit Report 2024.

GOQii's report based on its data of 6 million users found that only a marginal 1% of the population is categorised as 'High-Risk', same as 2022. Here are some other key findings from the report.

59% of women and 40% of men were classified as unhealthy.

Health in Indian metros is on the upswing. Mumbai's healthy population rose from 49% to 52%, while Bengaluru saw a jump from 52% to 55%.

Patna (55%), Kolkata (53%), Lucknow (51%) and Bhopal (50%) were ranked as the unhealthiest cities in India.

Surat (63%) followed by Jaipur (61%) have the highest percentage of healthy people.

Blood pressure (23% of respondents), High Cholesterol (18%), Diabetes (17%), and Thyroid issues (8%) were classified as the most common health issues.

Obesity among seniors reduced to 5% since 2021 while adult obesity dropped from 17% in 2022 to 15% in 2023.

In 2022, teen obesity decreased to 8% from 12% in 2021, while overweight teens remained stable at 14%.

Stress remains prevalent in India with 26% Indians experiencing stress in 2023 as compared to 24% in 2022 and 22% in 2021. Among young adults, 13% reported being stressed 75% of the time.

30% of people exercise for 3-6 days a week, 14% exercise for 7 days a week, 28% less than 3 days a week and 29% of people reported not engaging in any physical activity.

Seniors are the most active with 41% of them exercising for 3-6 days a week followed by 37% of adults and older adults.

In 2023, India averaged 6499 steps. Women averaged 5761 steps, while men averaged 6821 steps. Notably, young adults led with 7038 steps, exceeding seniors' average of 5821 steps.

Indians get 7 hours and 10 minutes of overall sleep on an average per day & 5 hours deep/sound sleep.

39.4% consume less than one serving of fruits and vegetables daily, while 60.3% consume over 2 servings of sugary, fatty foods, with 16.4% consuming more than 5 servings.
