Mumbai’s First Double-Decker Flyover Opens: See Details
Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde inaugurated the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s first double-decker flyover.
The 1 km flyover at Mira Bhayandar, Thane, combines a metro viaduct and a road flyover for Metro Line-9.
This flyover is expected to reduce congestion at important intersections on Mira Road.
Metro Line 9 connects Andheri to Mumbai International Airport and Dahisar to Mira Road, extending the Red Line.
The flyover has distinct floors for metro and road travel.
It aims to save commuters 8-10 minutes of travel time.
It has signage and lighting that comply with MoRTH rules.
One of the major obstacles to the construction was moving the Dahanu-Versova double-circuit power line.
It was moved 3 kilometres and lifted to 75 meters, making it Maharashtra's second-highest power channel.
By combining road and metro into a single structure, the flyover has allowed for more effective land use.
